Introduction
From the Internet to iPods, whether sharing information or interacting, we are all moving into what I call iSpace. This is a vibrant new dimension full of opportunities and challenges for everyone.
Into iSpace is about this space. The iconic "1984" Apple commercial depicted a realm of deadening technology - being superseded by new possibilities. I too see iSpace as a new artistic medium - one in which we can both build community and do work that matters.
Into iSpace is a set of articles for everyone on the journey into the digital future, covering the skills, tools, and knowledge needed to participate in iSpace.
Please subscribe to the iSpace Blog which covers new articles and general technology news, or subscribe to the weekly Email Newsletter, which contains everything published in the blog that week. [Update: the Email Newsletter will switch to being weekly as soon as Feedburner implements this feature]
The Web began as a form of publishing - but the new iSpace is about interaction and participation. Please participate here by adding comments and using the Forum. Your comments and questions can help others, and I will incorporate useful information from comments back into the articles. And if you would like to suggest a topic for me to write about, please do so in the "I Want to Know About ..." section of the Forum.
Into iSpace uses a comment system from Disqus that offers much more functionality than normal comment systems. Before posting a comment for the first time, please take a moment to register. Once you have registered, you can also post questions and suggestions in the Forum. Please also feel welcome to tell us something about yourself in the Introduce Yourself... part of the Forum.
If you read something here that your friends could find useful, please click on the
button in the sidebar. This will pop up your email program with a message containing a link to the article.
Black Diamond territory...Most of the information in Into iSpace is for everyone with a basic knowledge of computers. Occasionally there will be some information that is intended for people with a far more technical background. These sections are marked with a Black Diamond (the international symbol for the most difficult ski slopes!).
With over 210 million people on the Internet (and some 47 million bloggers!), China has the second highest number of Internet users in the world (the United States has 215 million). I plan to have a Chinese language version of Into iSpace up later this year -please contact me if you could help with translating. In the meantime, you can can click on Chinese in the Translate Into option in the sidebar to see an automatic translation of any page.
